What is a Sequence?
A sequence is simply putting things in order. Like following a recipe:
- First, get eggs
- Then, crack them
- Next, mix them
- Finally, cook them!
In Arabic, we have special words that act like traffic signs telling readers “HERE COMES THE NEXT THING!”

Part 2: Reported Speech (الكلام المنقول)
What is Reported Speech?
Imagine your friend Layla tells you: “I love ice cream!”
Later, you want to tell your mom what Layla said. You have TWO choices:
Direct Speech (exact words with quotes):
Layla said, “I love ice cream!”
Reported Speech (your own words):
Layla said that she loves ice cream.
See the difference? In reported speech, we change the words a little to fit the new sentence.
The Arabic Reporting Toolkit 🗣️
In Arabic, we use special phrases to introduce what someone said:

The Magic of إنَّ and أنَّ
These two words are like doorways that open into what someone said:
- إنَّ (in-na) = “that” (at the start of reported speech)
- أنَّ (an-na) = “that” (after verbs of saying/thinking)
Example:
Original: أحمد يقول: “أنا سعيد” Ahmad says: “I am happy”
Reported: قالَ أحمدُ إنَّهُ سعيدٌ Ahmad said that he is happy
Notice: “أنا” (I) changed to “هُ” (he) because we’re talking ABOUT Ahmad now, not AS Ahmad!
The Pronoun Shift 🔄
This is the trickiest part! When you report what someone said, pronouns must SHIFT:

When reporting questions, we use عَنْ (about) or هَلْ (whether):
