🎯 What We’ll Master

❀ Part 1: Likes and Dislikes

The Love Button: AIMER

Think of “aimer” as your LOVE button. When you really like something, you press it!

French English When to Use
J’aime I like/love Strong positive feeling
J’adore I adore/love SUPER strong love!
Je déteste I hate Strong dislike
Je n’aime pas I don’t like Simple dislike

Real Examples (Like a French Kid!)

Positive feelings:

  • J’aime le chocolat! → I like chocolate!
  • J’adore ma maman. → I adore my mom.
  • J’aime jouer. → I like to play.

Negative feelings:

  • Je n’aime pas les Ă©pinards. → I don’t like spinach.
  • Je dĂ©teste le bruit. → I hate noise.

The Secret Pattern

J'aime + noun → J'aime le cafĂ© (I like coffee)
J'aime + verb → J'aime danser (I like to dance)

💡 Pro tip: “Aimer” with people means LOVE. “J’aime Pierre” = I love Pierre!

⭐ Part 2: Expressing Preferences

The “I’d Rather” Button: PRÉFÉRER

When choosing between things, use préférer (to prefer).

French English

Polite preference:

  • Je prĂ©fĂ©rerais partir tĂŽt. → I would prefer to leave early.

Quick Formula

Je préfÚre + [thing A] + à + [thing B]
         ↓
"I prefer [A] to [B]"
