Vastu Plot Assessment: Finding Your Perfect Land

The Story of Choosing Land Wisely

Imagine you’re a bird looking for the perfect spot to build your nest. You wouldn’t pick a branch that’s too thin, or one that shakes too much, or one near a scary cat’s house, right? You’d look for a strong, safe, peaceful branch!

Vastu Shastra works the same way for humans. It helps us pick the best plot of land for our homes. Just like how a bird knows which branch feels “right,” Vastu teaches us which land will make us happy and healthy!

Plot Selection Criteria: The Shopping List for Land

Think of buying land like picking an apple from a basket. You wouldn’t just grab any apple! You’d look for one that’s:

  • Not bruised
  • Nice and round
  • Smells good
  • Feels firm

Vastu gives us a similar checklist for land:

The Basic Rules

What to Check Why It Matters
Shape Regular shapes = peaceful energy
Slope Where water flows matters
Surroundings What’s nearby affects you
Soil Good soil = good foundation
Roads How you enter your home matters

Example: If you found two plots—one square and one with jagged edges—the square one would be like picking a perfect apple. The jagged one might have hidden problems!

Auspicious Plot Indicators: Green Flags!

When you see these signs, your land is saying “Pick me! I’m great!”

Signs of a Lucky Plot

graph TD A[Good Plot Signs] --> B[Fertile Soil] A --> C[Level Ground] A --> D[Flowing Water Nearby] A --> E[Healthy Plants Growing] A --> F[Pleasant Smell] A --> G[Birds Visit Often]

What Makes Land Happy?

1. The Soil Test

  • Dig a small pit
  • Fill it with water
  • If water stays = Good soil!
  • If it drains fast = Soil is too dry

2. The Color Test

  • White soil = Brings peace
  • Red soil = Brings energy
  • Yellow soil = Brings wealth
  • Black soil = Needs special care

Example: Imagine your land has green grass growing, butterflies visiting, and the soil holds water like a sponge. This land is giving you a big thumbs up!

Inauspicious Plot Indicators: Red Flags!

Just like a bruised apple, some land shows warning signs. Don’t ignore them!

Warning Signs to Watch For

Red Flag What It Means
Bones or strange objects found Old problems buried here
Ants or termites everywhere Underground troubles
Thorny bushes dominating Difficult energy
Stagnant dirty water Stuck, bad energy
Burnt or barren soil Life force is weak
Near cemetery or hospital Heavy energy nearby

The “Yuck” Test

If you stand on the land and feel:

  • Uneasy or sad
  • Like you want to leave quickly
  • Strange heaviness

Trust your feelings! Even birds fly away from bad branches.

Example: You visit a plot and notice cracks everywhere, no plants growing, and crows constantly circling. This land is waving red flags!

Square Plot Characteristics: The Perfect Shape

A square plot is like a perfectly cut sandwich—equal on all sides, balanced, and satisfying!

Why Squares Are Special

graph TD A[Square Plot] --> B[Equal Energy All Sides] B --> C[Balance & Stability] C --> D[Peace at Home] D --> E[Family Harmony]

Square Plot Benefits

Benefit Explanation
Balance Energy distributed equally
Simplicity Easy to plan house placement
Prosperity All directions get equal attention
Peace No missing corners causing problems

The Rule: A square plot with roads on North and East is considered the BEST combination!

Example: Think of a square chocolate bar—every piece is equal, fair, and perfect. That’s what square land does for your life energy!

Rectangular Plot Traits: The Second Best

Rectangular plots are like a loaf of bread—longer on one side, but still very good!

The Golden Rectangle Rule

Best Rectangle: Length should not be more than 2 times the width.

Type Ratio Good or Bad?
Square 1:1 Excellent!
Short Rectangle 1:1.5 Great!
Medium Rectangle 1:2 Good
Long Rectangle 1:3 or more Avoid!

Direction Matters!

graph LR A[Rectangular Plot] --> B{Which Direction is Longer?} B --> C[North-South = Good] B --> D[East-West = Better!]

Example: A plot that’s 40 feet wide and 60 feet long (1:1.5) is like a nice bread loaf—perfect for sandwiches! But a plot 20 feet wide and 100 feet long is like a stick—too skinny to use well.

Irregular Plot Assessment: The Tricky Shapes

Irregular plots are like cookies that didn’t come out quite right—they might still taste okay, but they need extra care!

Common Irregular Shapes

Shape Problem Solution
Triangle Energy leaks from corners Very difficult to fix
L-Shaped Missing corner = missing luck Can sometimes remedy
Circle No corners to anchor Not recommended for homes
Hexagon Unusual energy flow Requires expert help

Can Irregular Plots Be Fixed?

Sometimes! Here’s how:

L-Shaped Plot Fix:

  • Build walls to create a “virtual” square
  • Use the cut-off area as a garden
  • Place heavy objects in corners

Example: Imagine a pizza slice-shaped plot. The pointy end keeps losing energy like water dripping from a corner. That’s why triangles are tricky!

Plot Extensions and Cuts: The Good Bumps and Bad Dents

Think of your plot like a person’s body. Some extra parts are good (like strong arms), and some missing parts cause problems (like a missing finger).

Extensions (Extra Parts) - “Vridhi”

graph TD A[Extensions] --> B[Northeast Extension] A --> C[East Extension] A --> D[North Extension] B --> E[EXCELLENT! Brings wealth] C --> F[GOOD! Brings fame] D --> G[GOOD! Brings opportunities]

Cuts (Missing Parts) - “Vedha”

Where the Cut Is What Gets Affected
Northeast cut Prosperity suffers
Southeast cut Female health issues
Northwest cut Relationship troubles
Southwest cut Stability problems

The Easy Memory Trick

Good Extensions: Think “NE = Nice Extra!” (Northeast, North, East)

Bad Cuts: Any corner cut is like a leak in your bucket—good things escape!

Example: If your plot has a small extra piece sticking out toward the Northeast, it’s like your land has a lucky charm attached! But if the Southwest corner is cut off, it’s like your home lost its anchor.

Shermukhi and Gaumukhi Plots: The Animal Shapes

Two special plot shapes are named after animals. Let’s meet them!

Shermukhi Plot (Lion Face)

     Wide Front
    ____________
   / \
  / \
 / \
| |
 \ /
  \ /
   \____________/
    Narrow Back

Shermukhi means “Lion’s Face”

  • Wide at the front, narrow at the back
  • Like a lion’s face with broad cheeks!
For What? Good or Bad?
Business/Shop EXCELLENT!
Home/Living AVOID!

Why? A lion faces the world boldly—great for business. But homes need security at the back, and this shape is weak there.

Gaumukhi Plot (Cow Face)

    Narrow Front
      ________
     / \
    / \
   / \
  | |
  \ /
   \ /
    \__________/
     Wide Back

Gaumukhi means “Cow’s Face”

  • Narrow at the front, wide at the back
  • Like a cow’s gentle narrow face leading to a sturdy body!
For What? Good or Bad?
Home/Living EXCELLENT!
Business/Shop AVOID!

Why? A cow represents nourishment and peace. This shape protects the family with a wide, strong back.

Quick Memory Game

Animal Shape Best For
LION (Shermukhi) Wide Front Commerce
COW (Gaumukhi) Wide Back Residence

Example: If you’re opening a shop, you want customers to see a BIG welcoming front—like a lion’s face! But for your family home, you want a protected, wide backyard—like a cow’s safe body!

Your Plot Assessment Checklist

Before you buy any land, run through this checklist like checking items off a grocery list:

Quick Assessment Guide

graph TD A[Found a Plot?] --> B{Is it Square or Rectangle?} B -->|Yes| C{Check Extensions/Cuts} B -->|No| D[Consider Carefully] C --> E{Northeast Extended?} E -->|Yes| F[BONUS! Very Lucky] E -->|No| G{Any Corner Cuts?} G -->|Yes| H[Check Severity] G -->|No| I[Looking Good!] I --> J[Check Soil & Surroundings]

The Final Score Card

What to Check Best Choice
Shape Square > Rectangle > Others
Extension Northeast best
No Cuts Southwest & Northeast must be intact
Shermukhi Only for business
Gaumukhi Only for homes
Soil Holds water, good color
Feeling You feel happy standing there

Remember This!

Choosing land is like choosing a friend for life. Your plot will be with your family for generations. Take your time, check everything, and trust both Vastu wisdom AND your gut feeling!

The Golden Rule: When in doubt, always prefer a simple square or rectangle over any fancy irregular shape. Simple = Stable = Happy!

Now you know how to look at land like a Vastu expert! Go find your perfect plot!
